New York Red Bulls News Release
SECAUCUS, NJ (Wednesday, July 5, 2006) - New York Red Bulls midfielder Mark Lisi underwent a successful procedure today in Munich, Germany to repair a left side inguinal hernia injury or "sports hernia". Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck performed a Minimal Repair Technique on the longest tenured player on the Red Bulls, which is a procedure developed and performed exclusively by Dr. Muschaweck.
The Red Bulls sent Lisi to see the specialist after he felt discomfort during recent workouts. In April 2006, Lisi underwent a similar surgery performed by Dr. Muschaweck on his right side.
Lisi, 28, is first on the team in assists with four and he has featured in eight games while starting in seven. His last game was on June 25 in a 2-0 loss to Chicago, where he played 56 minutes before being substituted. The timetable on his full return is put at 1-2 weeks.
