Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, July 5, 2006) - Following a Fourth of July draw at Real Salt Lake on Tuesday, Chivas USA (6-5-5, 23 pts) carries its unbeaten run into Robertson Stadium in Houston to face the Dynamo (6-3-6, 24 pts) on Saturday, July 8 at 2:00 p.m. PT (TV: ESPN2; Radio: KTNQ 1020 AM Univision Radio; Web: MLSLIVE.tv).. The last time the Red-and-White lost a match was nearly one month ago against FC Dallas, a slip that was avenged on July 1 in The Home Depot Center when Chivas USA came out 3-0 winners.
SUÃREZ RETURNS EMPHATICALLY: Claudio Suárez has made a huge impact with Chivas USA since returning from his stay with the Mexican National Team at the World Cup. In his first game back, the defender scored twice on headers in a 3-0 win over FC Dallas, on the night that fans celebrated his bobblehead giveaway. Suárez was again in the center of the defense against Real Salt Lake as the team notched its second consecutive shutout. Chivas USA has shutouts in three of the five games that Suárez has played in this season.
LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP: Chivas USA will face a surprising Roma FC squad from Dallas, Texas in the third-round U.S. Open Cup match. The game will take place at Harder Stadium on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara on Wednesday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Roma FC, an amateur team playing in the United States Amateur Soccer Association, beat Romario's Miami FC to advance to the match. The winner takes on the Los Angeles Galaxy on August 2. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the nation's oldest annual team sports tournament.
MCDONALD'S FAN PACK: Chivas USA and McDonald's have partnered up to offer the McDonald's Fan Pack for select games during the 2006 season. For just $49, fans will get a chance to experience great soccer excitement along with great meals from McDonald's. GUADALAJARA UPDATE: Club Deportivo Guadalajara, continues training in Guadalajara in preparation for the second leg of its Copa Libertadores match with Vélez Sarsfield. Guadalajara will face off against Velez on July 20 in Buenos Aires in the quarterfinals of South America's biggest club tournament.
BARCELONA COMING TO LOS ANGELES: UEFA Champions League winner and Spanish champion Barcelona will be in Los Angeles on August 6 to face Club Deportivo Guadalajara at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Ronaldinho, Messi, Márquez and Eto'o will be among the stars that will face the Mexican squad in the doubleheader that will also include Chivas USA vs. the New England Revolution, starting at 4:00 p.m. PT. VIRGEN OF MIRACLES: The Virgin of Zapopan continues her journey through Southern California, having spent time last week at the Iglesia de Santa Rosa de Lima in San Fernando. The her tour of this revered statue of the Virgin Mary to over a dozen Southern California churches will end with a special mass at The Home Depot Center on July 15, the date of the third 'Honda Super Clasico' of 2006.
