
Galaxy to host Mexican club Nexaca July 12

CARSON, CA (Wednesday, July 5, 2006). - The 2005 MLS Cup Champions Los Angeles Galaxy will host Mexican Primera Division team CID Necaxa on Wednesday, July 12 at 7:30 pm (PT) at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California, the club announced today.
"We are thrilled to bring an exciting team like Necaxa to The Home Depot Center," Galaxy President & General Manager Alexi Lalas said. "We are always ready to test ourselves against international opponents, and anytime we get to play a team from Mexico, we want to make sure we get the win."
The international match will be Bonus Game B for Galaxy full season ticket plan holders, who will receive their tickets in the mail. Advance tickets range from $15-$45 and are available by calling the Galaxy ticket office at 1-877-3GALAXY. As with any Galaxy match at The Home Depot Center, special group discounts are also available.
This will be the seventh meeting between the teams, with the Galaxy owning a 1-3-2 record since 1996 against Necaxa. The Galaxy last played Necaxa on December 3, 2004 and downed the Mexican club 3-1 at The Home Depot Center behind two goals from Peter Vagenas. Necaxa swept the Galaxy in a home and home series in the 2003 CONCACAF Champions Cup and defeated the Galaxy 2-1 in the first meeting between the teams on August 14, 1996 at the Rose Bowl.
Necaxa has revamped its lineup for the upcoming season, adding explosive Brazilian goal scorer Kléber Boas (15 goals in Apertura 2005) from Club America to team up with Frankie Oviedo and Edgar Alonso Zapata. Head coach Enrique Lopez Zarza's squad is expected to once again contend for the Mexican League Championship in the upcoming season.
Founded in 1922, Necaxa was Mexico's Primera Division "Team of the Decade" in the 1990s after winning the league championship in 1994-95 and 1995-96 and 1998. Also, Necaxa finished third in the 2000 FIFA Club World Championships - upsetting the Spanish First Division's Real Madrid and tying European powerhouse Manchester United.
