Marinez Recalled to White Sox on Friday

(Fort Mill, SC) - Jhan Carlos Marinez, who posted a 2-2 mark with a 3.14 ERA in 26 games this season for the Charlotte Knights, was recalled to Chicago earlier today as announced by the White Sox.

Marinez, 23, is now the ninth Charlotte Knights player this season to go from Charlotte to Chicago. RHP Dylan Axelrod, LHP Eric Stults, LHP Jose Quintana, OF Jordan Danks, RHP Brian Bruney, LHP Leyson Septimo, RHP Brian Omogrosso, and RHP Deunte Heath are the others.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Marinez was obtained by the White Sox from the Marlins on September 29, 2011 as part of the compensation for Ozzie Guillen. In 43 innings pitched this season with the Knights, Marinez had 47 strikeouts.

Marinez, who entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the seventh-best prospect in the White Sox system, has limited opponents to a .182 (28-154) average, third-lowest among International League relievers this season. Over his last six appearances, Marinez has not allowed a run and has thrown 13 consecutive scoreless innings pitched.

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The Knights host the Durham Bulls tonight with a 7:15 p.m. game.
