Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Etienne Marcoux made 23 saves and the Brampton Beast shutout the Maine Mariners to the tune of 3-0 on Friday night.

For the first time in franchise history, the Brampton Beast took on the Maine Mariners live from the CAA Centre on Friday evening. The home team got the scoring started with a tally from Beast leading scorer David Pacan. Brandon Marino found the big centre in front of the net and Pacan made no mistake as he stuffed home the rebound. It was Pacan's team leading 19th point of the season. That gave the Beast a 1-0 lead and that's where the first period ended off.

The Beast retired to their dressing room up on the scoreboard and ahead in shots by a count of 17-9. The second period came and went with either team scoring a goal. However, there was plenty of action provided by the men between the pipes. Beast goalie Etienne Marcoux made a bevy of incredible saves and that performance was mirrored by Mariners netminder Chris Nell.

The Beast returned to their locker room up 1-0 after two and leading in shots by a count of 34-18. The third period began with Nathan Todd hitting Daniel Ciampini with a gorgeous stretch pass. The forward went forehand to backhand and slipped it between the pads of Nell for a 2-0 Beast lead at 5:51.

Chris Martenet got his first of the goal as a member of the Beast when he shot a knuckle puck that made it through the pads of Nell. That gave the Beast a 3-0 lead at 12:39 of the third.

That would be all she wrote, as Marcoux shut the door the rest of the way and was rewarded with a 23 save shutout. It was the first clean sheet the Beast have had in a calendar year.

Notes: Molson Three Stars 3) Martenet (BRA) 2) Ciampini (BRA) 1) Marcoux (BRA). Both teams went a combined zero-for-five on the man advantage. Brampton and Maine renew hostilities tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
