Cyclones Dissolve Komets on Home Ice

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (9-3-2-0) collected a 4-1 win over the Ft. Wayne Komets on Friday night. Forwards Myles Powell and Shaw Boomhower, along with defensemen Eric Knodel and Arvin Atwal netted the goals for the Cyclones, who have won both of the meetings against Ft. Wayne so far this season.
The Cyclones drew first blood 7:43 into the opening period, when defenseman Tobie Bisson launched a shot that was deflected in by Powell in front to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead. That lead became 2-0 a little more than two minutes later when forward Mike Marnell sent a pass from behind the net to Knodel, and he wristed a shot in from the high slot to give the Cyclones a two-goal cushion.
Cincinnati capped off the period with 55 seconds remaining when defenseman Devante Stephens took a shot from the point that was kicked out by Komets netminder Zach Fucale, and after another save on a shot from forward Vas Glotov out front, Boomhower slapped in the rebound on the back door to put the 'Clones ahead, 3-0, after 20 minutes.
In the second, the Komets cut their deficit to 3-1 when Phelix Martineau found the back of the net with less than four minutes to play for his fifth goal of the season. The momentum was short-lived, however, as Cincinnati regained their three-goal cushion with 1:10 remaining when forward Justin Vaive sent a pass to Atwal in the left circle, and he blasted a shot in to put the 'Clones ahead, 4-1, heading into the third period.
The teams exchanged quality scoring chances all throughout the third period, however Cyclones goaltender Jonas Johansson stopped all 13 Ft. Wayne shots he faced in the period to preserve Cincinnati's 4-1 win. The Cyclones were outshot, 31-28, in the period, with Johansson steering aside 30 in the win. Cincinnati hosts the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night, wrapping up a two-game weekend. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
