Morning Skate
Unmatched: At 9-1-1-0, the Mavericks are off to their best start in franchise history. This mark includes an active seven-game win streak, the first for Kansas City since the 2015-16 season. The previous hot start of 9-2 came in the 2013-14 season that ended with the Central Hockey League's Governor's Cup, a regular season that ended with 90 points in 66 games.
Super Cooper: Mark Cooper enters tonight's game with the second-best point total in the ECHL at 19 points on the season, just one behind the league leaders - a trio who boast 20 points. Of the three with 20, two have games in hand on Cooper and one, Caleb Herbert of Utah, had been called up to the Colorado Eagles of the AHL. Cooper also leads the league in game-winning goals on the young season with three.
On The Plus Side: Linemates Jared VanWormer and Mark Cooper currently hold the league lead in plus-minus, entering tonight's matchup with plus-14 ratings on the year. The Mavericks' top two scorers have combined for 35 points through 11 games on the season as the second line has made a habit of terrorizing opposition.
On The Road Again: The Mavericks hit the road once again for a pair of games, the second-straight weekend away from home ice for the club. Last weekend the Mavericks took a pair from the Allen Americans and will look to improve to 4-1-1 on the road this season in tonight's game.
Matchup To Watch: Once again, special teams is the battle. The Mavericks got a big boost from the power play in the last meeting with Wichita, going 3-for-5 against a Thunder penalty kill that had been perfect on the road until Tuesday's meeting. On the flip side, the Mavericks' PK held Wichita off the board. The Thunder have been worse on home ice this season, owning the league's 24th-ranked power play at 7.1 percent and 21st on the penalty kill at 79.4 percent. Kansas City is 11th on the power play on the road at 18.5 percent and 3rd on the penalty kill at 91.3 percent.
