St. Lucie Mets News Release

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders survived two late inning rallies to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 4-2 on Friday at LECOM Park.

With the Mets trailing 4-1 in the top of the eighth, Matt Winaker crushed a RBI double to right-center field to make it a 4-2 deficit, but a Marauders' relay on the play got Jeremy Vasquez at home plate for the final out of the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Cody Bohanek and Manny Rodriguez started the inning with back-to-back singles. Jake Ortega dropped down a sac bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Wagner Lagrange blooped a ball to shallow right field that looked like a hit off the bat, but Cal Mitchell raced in and made a knee high catch to save the lead for Bradenton.

Marauders reliever John O'Reilly then got Blake Tiberi to ground out on a comebacker to end the ballgame.

O'Reilly pitched the finally three innings allowing just one unearned run to get the save.

Marauders starter Gavin Wallace held the Mets to one run over six strong innings to get the win.

The Mets took an early 1-0 lead on Winaker's solo homer in the second inning.

Roldolfo Castro and Jesse Medrano belted consecutive run-scoring hits off of Mets starter Tylor Megill in the bottom of the second to give the Marauders a 2-1 lead.

Oneil Cruz slugged a two-run homer against Megill in the third inning to make it 4-1. The homer was the last hit for the Marauders until a two-out double by Cruz in the eighth.

Megill took the loss. He gave up four runs on five hits in five innings. He struck out seven.

Darwin Ramos and Andrew Mitchell combined for three scoreless innings out of the Mets bullpen.

The three Mets pitchers recorded 12 total strikeouts.

Winaker went 2 for 3 with a homer, double, walk, stolen base and two RBI.

The Mets (24-13, 56-47) and Marauders (20-16, 56-46) play the second game of their four-game series at LECOM Park on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
