Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Royce Lewis homered and knocked in the winning run in the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly as the Miracle upended the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 3-2, in the series opener on Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.
With the bases loaded and one out in the 10th, Lewis lofted a fly ball down the right-field line that was deep enough to score Yeltsin Encarnacion with the winning run.
Lewis opened the scoring in the first with his 10th home run of the season. The Miracle shortstop has homered twice in his last three games. David Banuelos extended the lead to 2-0 an inning later with a run scoring single.
The Flying Tigers plated a run in the seventh. With a runner at second and one out, Kody Clemens flied one into right that Trey Cabbage lost in the twilight sky, allowing a run to score.
Lakeland tied the game in the ninth on a Chad Sedio RBI single.
Tyler Watson started for the Miracle and allowed just one run in seven innings. The left-hander struck out five and did not issue a walk.
Calvin Faucher (3-2) earned the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings.
The four-game series continues on Friday night in Fort Myers. Right-hander Blayne Enlow will start for the Miracle. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
