Marauders Employee Awarded FSL/Miami Marlins Scholarship

Bradenton, Fla. - The Florida State League Scholarship Committee has awarded twelve (12) $1,500 educational scholarships to applicants from each team in the League. The Bradenton Marauders are proud to announce that Antonio Mata has been selected as a scholarship recipient.

The scholarship winners will be guests of the Miami Marlins in pre-game ceremonies on Sunday, August 23 at 1:10 PM. The Marauders will recognize Mata in a pre-game ceremony on Friday, August 14. Mata will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before that night's 6:30 p.m. game against the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

The Committee awarded the scholarships after a review of applications submitted by each candidate. The award is based both on financial need and grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students eligible for this award must be an employee of, or the child or grandchild of an employee of the participating club and must be at least a high school junior by the 2015 Fall Term.

Mata is a 2015 graduate of Manatee High School. He previously worked for the Marauders as a bat boy and is currently a member of the game day entertainment staff. He is enrolled for the fall semester at State College of Florida in Bradenton.

The Miami Marlins have sponsored this program for 16 years and have contributed a total of $160,500. Florida State League President Ken Carson stated, "I am very proud of all the hard work the teams do with all the teams participating, and I congratulate all of the winners. I want to thank the Miami Marlins for their continued support for this great program. They are a great partner."
