Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, Kentucky - Kyle Manzardo had a homer and three RBIs for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (32-20) in a 6-4 loss to the Hickory Crawdads (31-22) on Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark. BG and Hickory resume their series on Thursday at 6:35 PM CT.
Hickory put three runs across in the second inning to jump out to an early lead, but the Hot Rods got on the board in the third. Osleivis Basabe walked on four pitches, and Manzardo laced a double off the right-centerfield wall for BG's first hit and first run of the game to cut Hickory's lead to 3-1. A solo homer in the fifth and a double in the sixth increased Hickory's lead to 5-1 until BG chipped away again in the sixth.
Manzardo started off the frame with a bang, smacking a home run to make the score 5-2. Tanner Murray and Heriberto Hernandez walked, and Logan Driscoll sent the first pitch he saw off the wall in centerfield, plating Murray and moving Hernandez to third on a double that reduced Hickory's lead to 5-3. Cody Freeman hit a solo shot in the eighth made it 6-3 Crawdads.
Bowling Green made it interesting in the ninth, loading the bases on two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Manzardo drove in a run on a fielder's choice to make it 6-4, but that is where the score would stay as the Hot Rods fell to Hickory 6-4.
Patrick Wicklander (0-3) took the loss in 5.0 innings of work, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Kyle Whitten pitched 2.0 innings in his Hot Rods debut, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Nomar Rojas pitched the final 2.0 innings for BG, he allowed one run on one hit and struck out two.
