Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory Crawdad LF Tony Mansolino hit a first inning grand slam and the Hickory offense jumped all over Greensboro starter Ryan Tucker in an 11-5 win Wednesday afternoon in front of 3,147 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Mansolino, who tripled in three in Tuesday's Crawdad 4-3 win over the Grasshoppers, capped a five run first for the 'Dads with his two out, three-two count line drive smash over the left field wall. Hickory RF Jason Delaney drew a based loaded walk to open the scoring for the 'Dads.
After Greensboro reached for one run against Crawdad starter Luis Munoz in the second inning, the 'Dads tacked on three in the bottom of the second. Hickory CF Brad Corley drove in two with a double and after Tucker was relieved by Mauro Zarate, 1B Mike Carlin singled in Corley to give the 'Dads an 8-3 lead.
Tucker (1-6) got just four outs and allowed eight runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three in a losing effort. Munoz (4-1) went seven innings allowing a season high four runs on nine hits to pick up the victory.
Mansolino finished with two hits and drove in five. Eight of his 23 RBI's on the season have come in the last two days. Corley went three for five with two runs driven in and scored three times. Hickory DH James Boone reached base four times and scored on three occasions.
Greensboro DH Trent D'Antonio smacked two homers and drove in three. Greensboro skipper Brandon Hyde was ejected for a fourth time this season when he was given the thumb between the top and bottom of the sixth inning.
The two teams play a double-header in Greensboro beginning at 6pm Thursday night. The Crawdads send righties Todd Redmond and Derek Antelo to the mound facing off against right handers Chris Volstad and Marc LaMacchia.
