Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (18-20-3-2) put the wraps on their six-game road trip in the second game of a back-to-back against the Charlotte Checkers (19-22-3-0) on Saturday. After killing off an early penalty, the Moose turned the tables and cashed in on their first man advantage of the evening. Brenden Kichton's point shot was tipped past Eddie Lack by Brendan Lemieux 5:32 into the first. The teams combined for seven minor penalties in the period. The Moose fended off a late five-on-three to maintain their lead heading into the second, but still faced 26 seconds down two skaters to start the middle period.
Eric Comrie was a big part of keeping the Moose in front in the second. The goaltender made 13 saves in the middle period as the Checkers went on the attack. Despite being outshot in the frame, the Moose added to their lead midway through the period. Jack Roslovic pushed the puck forward off a faceoff, and went cross-crease to Kyle Connor for the tap-in and a 2-0 lead. The two nearly combined for another goal moments later, but Eddie Lack turned aside the opportunity. Charlotte finally broke through with four minutes left in the frame on a bad break for the Moose. Andrew Poturalski's centering pass redirected off a Manitoba stick and perfectly up under the bar to get Charlotte within a 2-1 score heading to the third.
The Checkers pushed again in the third, but Comrie stood tall, making 10 saves in the frame. The Moose shut things down late in the period and were granted a powerplay with 1:38 remaining in the game. Manitoba used the time effectively, killing off the remaining time despite not adding to their lead. Comrie finished the 2-1 win with 35 saves in his sixth straight start to help the Moose to a 3-3-0-0 record on their six-game swing.
