
Tom Kostopoulos Reaches 500 Career AHL Points

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Tom Kostopoulos has earned himself another spot in the history books. With a goal against the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' captain earned his 500th point in the American Hockey League.
Kostopoulos becomes the 91st player in AHL history to reach 500 career points. He is also Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's franchise leader in goals (172), assists (257), points (429), power play goals (63), game-winning goals (24) and games played (598).
The Mississauga, Ont. native was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round (204th overall) at the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He began his professional career with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during the team's inaugural season in 1999-2000. Kostopoulos, 38, is currently in his sixth season wearing the "C" as captain of the Penguins.
Last year, Kostopoulos become just the fourth player in the history of the game to appear in 600 games in both the NHL and AHL.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's next game is Friday, Feb. 3 for the first visit in 2016-17 by the St. John's IceCaps to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
