Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that Phantoms forward Matt Mangene has been traded to the New York Islanders organization and also that they have recalled goalie Cal Heeter from the Phantoms on an emergency basis.

Mangene was dealt along with a pair of draft picks (Round 3 of 2014 and Round 2 of 2015) in exchange for defenseman Andrew MacDonald. Mangene is a Long Island native who now joins his hometown NHL team and organization.

Mangene, 24 (3/12/1989), played in 92 career games with the Phantoms scoring 8-9-17 and has yet to appear in the NHL. This season in 51 games he has scored 3-3-6. If Mangene is assigned to the Islanders AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, then the Phantoms will see their former teammate soon as Adirondack travels to Bridgeport for a game on Sunday, March 16.

He had originally signed a free agent entry-level deal with the Flyers organization on April 2, 2012 out of the University of Maine Black Bears. He also played 14 games in the ECHL for the Trenton Titans last year scoring 0-6-6.

Heeter re-joins the Flyers again having recently having been with the team just this past weekend. He dressed in Philadelphia's games on Saturday and Sunday as back-up to Steve Mason. It was announced that he was loaned back to the Phantoms on Monday morning but he has now been recalled again by Philadelphia on Tuesday evening. The St. Louis, Missouri native has yet to appear in any regular-season game-action in the NHL. This is his third recall by the Flyers and his second this season.

Cal Heeter is a second-year pro out of Ohio State who appeared in one preseason game for Philadelphia earning a 3-2 shootout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on September 16.

Heeter is 15-19-0 for the Adirondack Phantoms this year with a 2.48 goals-against average and .916 save percentage. He has four shutouts this season including back-to-back blankings on January 3 and January 4 of the Hershey Bears and Albany Devils when he won AHL Player of the Week honors.

The Phantoms travel to New Hampshire on Friday evening to take on the Eastern Conference leading Manchester Monarchs. Adirondack's next home game is Saturday night against the Springfield Falcons. Game-Time at the Glens Falls Civic Center is 7:00. Contact the Phantoms for tickets in advance to save: 518-480-3355.
