Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, Wis. - Winners of seven straight games, the Madison Mallards (9-3) take on the Kenosha Kingfish at Warner Park today at 4:05 PM. Today's game features the Festival Foods T.J. Watt bobblehead giveaway. Gates are scheduled to open at 2:30 PM.

After winning 6-1 last night, the Mallards hold a league-best 9-3 record. The Mallards currently have both the highest batting average (.280) and the lowest ERA (2.46) in the Northwoods League. Overall, the Mallards lead the league in home runs (7) while setting the league-low in strikeouts (70).

Probable Pitchers

Left handed pitcher Dalton Morrow (Southwest Baptist) is scheduled to start for the Mallards tonight. Morrow will be making his third start of the season after two strong outings to start the summer. Morrow has only allowed one earned run and eight hits between his two starts while tallying four strikeouts and posting a 0.81 ERA.

To oppose Morrow, the Kingfish are set to send Colton Johnson to the mound. Johnson, another lefty, will also be making his third start. Johnson has yet to last longer than four innings as he has allowed seven hits while walking six over 8.0 innings. The Mallards have hit an impressive .312 off of lefties this season and will look to convert offensively tonight.

Players to Watch

After Jake Randa (NW Florida State) and David Vinksy (Northwood) had their season-long hitting streaks snapped last night, Mallards designated hitter Tyler Plantier (Richmond) extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Plantier leads the Mallards with a .396 clip and has hit a league-leading three home runs while knocking in ten runs.

Mallards left fielder Drew Ober has been on the rise recently, racking up two hits in three straight ballgames. Ober has four hits over eight at bats against left handed pitching this season. Ober now owns a ten game hitting streak and has bumped his average up to .325.
