Waterloo Bucks (4-8) righthander Javin Drake dealt over 7.0 shutout innings to lead the Bucks to a 4-0 victory over the Eau Claire Express (4-9) on Sunday evening.
Drake struck out 10 while allowing only 3 hits and 1 walk on 91 pitches, working at a 58.3% ground ball rate, a 41.7% soft contact rate (to a meager 8.3% hard hit rate), a 65.2% strike rate, and a 15.3% swinging strike rate. Matthew Perea and Connor Johnson each delivered a shutout inning in the 8th and 9th to secure the first Bucks shutout of 2018.
Trey Leonard hit a sac fly followed by a Ryan Gonzalez RBI single to put the Bucks up 2-0 in the 5th, then Kevin Welsh delivered a 2-run single in the 6th. Drue Galassi and Brendan Hueth each put up multi-hit days for the Bucks.
Waterloo and Eau Claire wrap up their two game series on Monday evening at 6:35 p.m.
