July 25, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release

Following a loss in a 12-10 shootout on Saturday night, the Madison Mallards (10-7) were back the Duck Pond at Warner Park for an early start and came away with a tight, 5-4 victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-7).

Both teams kept up their run-scoring ways in the first as each team scored on a sacrifice fly and it was 1-1 heading to the second. Bryant Shellenbarger (Akron) drove in that run with the sac-fly, and then Zach Storbakken (Madison College) put the Ducks on top 2-1 in the third with an RBI groundout.

Shellenbarger had a big day at the plate as he drove in the fourth run for the Mallards on an RBI-double in the sixth. He went 2-for-2 with the sacrifice fly as well as a walk.

In the eighth, Drake Baldwin (Missouri State) came through with the big hit the Mallards needed as he hit an RBI single, scoring his Missouri State teammate Cam Cratic from third.

That put the Mallards up 5-4. Jared Fong then came out for his second inning of work in the ninth and shut the door despite the Woodchucks putting up a two-out rally with a couple of singles.

The season series with the Woodchucks now stands at an even 5-5, with each of the five two-game sets being split. Each game has been decided by two runs or less with the exception of one. These teams will face off two more times on August 7th and 8th.

Next up for the Mallards is a trip to Fond Du Lac to take on the Dock Spiders. Tomorrow, it will be a seven inning doubleheader starting at 11:35 a.m. with game two directly following. On Tuesday, they'll start at 6:35 p.m. prior to an off day on Wednesday.
