QUACK TRACKS
Tight
The Mallards are in fourth place in the ECHL's Central Division and thus are in possession of the division's final playoff spot. The four clubs battling for the final three postseason berths in the division are separated by just three points. The Mallards are one point ahead of fifth place Wichita, one point behind third place Tulsa and two points behind second place Rapid City. The Mallards have fewer games remaining (7) than each of Rapid City (8), Tulsa (9) and Wichita (9).
Skid
The Mallards have lost four straight games in regulation for the first time since enduring a four-game losing streak between December 1 and December 9, 2012. The Mallards last dropped five in a row in regulation between January 16 and January 24, 2010.
Sweep
The Mallards last weekend dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions to the Rush in Rapid City. The sweep dropped the Mallards from second place to fourth.
Home-and-Home
This week's home-and-home between the Mallards and Thunder will see the Mallards maintain their hold on a playoff spot if they at least split the two games, while Wichita will leapfrog the Mallards in the standings with a sweep.
On the Road
The Mallards will try to salvage one win from a stretch of three consecutive away games when they visit Wichita Wednesday night. The Mallards play four of their final seven games on the road.
Home Sweet Home
The Mallards Friday night against the Thunder return home for the first time since back-to-back defeats last Sunday against Missouri and last Wednesday against Tulsa left them with a 3-4-1 record at the conclusion of an eight-game homestand.
Hitting Singles
The Mallards have scored just a single goal in each of their last four games, scored just 15 times in their last nine games and scored three goals or fewer in each of their last ten games. This marks the first time the Mallards have scored no more than once in each of four straight games since a four-game stretch between January 15 and January 22, 2012 during which they totaled just two goals and were shutout twice. The Mallards rank twentieth in the ECHL in goals per game (2.8).
Stingy
The Mallards have allowed three goals or fewer in each of their last 12 games. They rank fifth in the ECHL in goals against per game (2.6).
Special Teams
The Mallards went 7-for-7 on the penalty kill last weekend against Rapid City and have survived their opponents' last eight power play overall to climb to fifth in the ECHL on the penalty kill (85.1 percent). The Mallards have gone 1-for-11 on the power play over their last three-plus games. They rank fourteenth in the league on the man advantage (17.3 percent).
Baked
Kevin Baker has recorded 11 points (six goals and five assists) in his last eight games.
Super Mario
Mario Lamoureux ranks fourth in the ECHL in assists (44). Lamoureux has climbed within three points of the career high set when he recorded 65 points with the Ontario Reign as a rookie in 2012-13.
Not Your Average Joe
By scoring last Friday night, Joe Perry took over sole possession of the team lead in goals (21). Last Friday's goal was his first since returning to the Mallards March 12 from the AHL's Iowa Wild and first since he scored twice against Wichita on January 28. It was also his first shorthanded goal of the season.
Debut
Forward Alex Grieve made his professional debut for the Mallards last Friday. Grieve signed with the Mallards last Thursday after completing his college career at Bentley University.
Trifecta
Austin Coldwell last Wednesday against Tulsa recorded an assist for the third time in as many professional games after signing with the Mallards March 12 out of Alaska-Anchorage.
Between the Pipes
Parker Milner, who has given up three goals or fewer in eight straight games, is tied for third in the AHL in goals against average (2.24) and tied for fourth in save percentage (.921).
