QUACK TRACKS

Skid

The Mallards yesterday against Fort Wayne suffered their fourth loss in eight days. This marks the first time the Mallards have lost four straight games since enduring a four-game skid between November 23 and November 27, 2010.

Drought

The Mallards went 169:28 without scoring until Brandon Marino found the back of the Fort Wayne net at 6:15 of the third period yesterday. Marino's goal was the Mallards' first since Eric Giosa scored at 16:47 of the third period of the Flock's 2-1 loss at Bloomington last Sunday. Back-to-back shutouts at the hands of the Evansville IceMen followed that defeat in Bloomington. The Mallards have now been blanked three times this season.

Tight

The Mallards are two points behind third place Missouri- against whom the Mallards will play twice this weekend- in the Turner Conference standings and are one point ahead of fifth place Rapid City. Just eight points separate first place- currently occupied by the Komets- and fifth place.

Tough at the Top

The Mallards have dropped the first three games in a stretch of seven straight games against four clubs- Evansville, Fort Wayne, Missouri and Wichita- that all currently hold playoff positions and that are all now at least seven games over .500.

Home Cooking

The Mallards have lost their last two home games after winning their prior seven home tilts.

On the 0

The Mallards have dropped four straight road games. The Flock has gone 2-5-0 in its last seven away contests after going 8-4-0 in its first dozen road outings.

Firepower

Even after scoring just twice in their last four games, the Mallards still rank fourth in the league offensively- Quad City averages 3.5 goals per game. The Mallards are just one goal behind league leaders Wichita and Allen with 131 total goals scored.

Double Down

The Mallards have scored nearly twice as many special teams goals as they have allowed. Quad City has produced 49 special teams goals (a league-high 42 on the power play and seven shorthanded) and has given up 25 (all on the power play).

Power Play

The Mallards are tied for third in the league in power play efficiency (21.0 percent) and lead the league in total power play goals (42) despite converting just one of their last 23 man advantages. Quad City also yesterday became the first CHL team this season to reach 200 power play opportunities.

Penalty Kill

The Mallards have killed off 16 of their opponents' last 17 power plays and now rank seventh in penalty killing (82.3 percent).

Best Shot

The Mallards remain the league leaders in shots on goal (37.3 per game) and have been outshot just once in their last ten games.

Little Big Man

Marino (25-26-51) scored yesterday after going three games without a point- the first time he has gone pointless in consecutive games this season. Marino leads the league in goals and power play goals (10) and is tied for second in points.

Milestone

Justin Chwedoruk yesterday played his four hundredth career game. Chwedoruk reached the milestone while playing against one of his former clubs- he suited up for the Komets in 2009-10. Chwedoruk has skated in more games for the Mallards- 105- than he has for any other club for whom he has played in his seven-year career.

Head-to-Head

The Mallards and Mavericks wrap up their eight-game season series this weekend. Both clubs have gone 3-2-1 over the first six meetings. Marino (5-3-8) is top producer in the season series. The Mallards have scored back-to-back home wins over the Thunder- one in the shootout, the other in overtime- after dropping the first match-up of the season between the two clubs on November 11 in Wichita.
