Madison, Wis. - Despite Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) clubbing his Northwoods League-leading tenth home run and Jean Ramirez (Illinois State) tallying his fourth consecutive multi-hit game, field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (6-3, 26-18) were defeated by the Kenosha Kingfish (9-2, 32-15) by a 14-5 score Friday night at Simmons Field. With the loss, the Mallards fell into a tie with the Green Bay Bullfrogs for second place in the South Division in the second half of the 2015 season.

After struggling against A.J. Bogucki (North Carolina) in Thursday's series opener, the Kingfish tabbed 18 hits against Madison pitching on Friday and wasted little time converting their base-knocks into runs. Kensoha plated two runners in the first and proceeded to score two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, respectively, before igniting for a six-run, bottom-of-the seventh to finish off their night of scoring. Nick Gruener (Harvard) stomached the game's losing decision on the mound for the Mallards, allowing four runs across 2.2 innings in his fourth start.

Gonsolin attempted to stimulate Madison's lineup early, clearing the fence for his tenth round-tripper of the summer to plate himself and Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) in the road half of the third. Gonsolin then came around to score the Mallards third run of the night in the fifth, courtesy of a reached-on-error by Collin Theroux (San Joaquin Delta CC). Scott Tyler (Ball State) drove in Ramirez via an RBI double in the top of the sixth, trimming the deficit to 14-5, which eventually went final after Madison failed to score in the seventh, eighth or ninth frames.

With the loss behind them, the Mallards will turn their collective attention toward Saturday's affair with the Battle Creek Bombers, scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at the Duck Pond. Night featuring a celebrity appearance by Who Knew? host Michael Feldman, who will be available for fan autographs and pictures pre-game and will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
