Rude Infuses Strike-Throwing Consistency for Bullpen
July 10, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI.- Adam Rude (LHP/UW-Oshkosh) has entered the fold as a much needed left-handed pitcher that throws strikes. He can pitch multiple innings of relief, and is accustomed to maintaining a low pitch count as the Bullfrogs try to piece together a consistent group of relief arms.
Bullfrogs' pitchers have almost walked as many as they have struck out this July (48K-46BB), for an average of over five walks issued per game.
Free passes weren't too much of an issue for Rude who was a starter for the Titans. He walked only 11 in 34.0IP and no more than two walks in any of his nine appearances.
Standing the shortest of all Bullfrogs slab-men at just 5'10" (listed as 5'9" by UW-Oshkosh), Rude has a tornado like motion in which he uses all limbs and leverage to deliver to the plate.
Standing in as a late-season, somewhat unknown entity, Rude's first appearance was two innings on July 6th to cap off an 8-0 victory in which he sat down the Growlers six up, and six down.
With the entrance of Connor Donovan into the starting rotation (will make first start on July 11th), and the shortened outings of five of the last six starters who have pitched under five innings, Rude has exhibited that he can be used in any scenario, a valuable asset for a team looking to make a second half playoff run.
Rude is no stranger to the Northwoods League either. He played for the Wisconsin Woodchucks in 2013, and posted two outings of a combined five innings in August with just one run allowed.
In addition to accuracy, Rude was capable of performing well under a variety of circumstances. He was a reliever his first two games of the spring, then in his third went 8IP/2ER/7K-2BB in a March 24th win against Keuka College.
He also spun a complete game, one-hit, shutout of Lawrence University in an April 28th victory indicating he might even be a spot-starter possibility for pitching coach Luke Prihoda who has used 14 different starting pitchers in 44 official games.
Rude is a native of Onalaska, WI, one of five players from the state on the Bullfrogs active roster.
