Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Madison, Wis. - The Kingfish saw their five-game winning streak snapped in Madison Thursday night, as the Mallards were able to deliver a decisive 13-2 final score.

Andrew Zapata took the mound for the first time as a starter since suffering an injury in early June. The Mallards ensured his welcome back would be anything but cordial, as Zapata was ousted after three innings of work upon surrendering nine runs. His UConn teammate, Callahan Brown, also saw his share of struggles as he let up three runs in three innings of action. Garrett McKenzie worked the final two frames and gave up one run to finish the job from a pitching perspective.

Offensively, the Kingfish fell one knock shy of ten hits, but were only able to plate two runs. Jeremy Vasquez brought home one of the two scores via an RBI single in the sixth, and then Eric Filia scored off a throwing error by Jean Ramirez moments later. Those two runs in the sixth frame would be all the Kingfish could muster on the evening. Both Brody Westmoreland and Eric Filia paced the Kingfish lineup with 2 hit performances, and Alex Borglin drew a walk to keep his six game walk streak alive.

The loss is just the second for the Kingfish since the second half of the season began on July 1st. The Kingfish are now 3-4 against Madison this summer, with all four of their losses coming in at Warner Park. The Kingfish will experience a change of scenery tomorrow evening as they host the Mallards in the season series finale at Simmons Field.
