
Bucks sink Anchors into early hole

Waterloo, Iowa - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Waterloo Bucks Thursday night by a score of 10-6 at Riverfront Stadium. The Anchors have a record of 5-4 in the second half and 17-27 on the year.
Josh Baumgart got the start for Alexandria and Waterloo was able to jump on him early in the first. Tyler Selesky singled and went to third on a double by Chris Kelly. A groundout scored Selesky and moved Kelly up a base. A single from Ryan Nagle drove in Kelly for the second Bucks run. After a walk to Zack Soria put two runners on, an error by catcher Anthony Mrosla scored Nagle. Alex Boxwell singled in Soria putting the Bucks ahead 4-0 after one.
The Blue Anchors chipped away at the deficit in the second. Ricky Sanchez singled to leadoff the inning and scored on Nehwon Norkeh's two-run home run making the score 4-2.
The Bucks got one back in their half of the second on a sacrifice fly from Kelly putting them ahead 5-2.
Josh Merrigan led off with a double in the third and two batters later, he scored on Norkeh's double and the score was 5-3.
Waterloo continued to answer in the third. A two-out base hit from Matthew James scored Soria increasing their lead to 6-3.
In the fourth, the Blue Anchors pulled within one. Mrosla walked to lead off the inning and went to second on Drew Fearing's base hit. Steve Sada hit a single scoring Mrosla and moving Fearing to third. After a pitching change, Merrigan drove a two-out single to score Fearing cutting the Bucks' lead down to 6-5.
The Bucks lead grew again in the sixth. James singled and after two outs were recorded, he came in to score on a single from Kelly. With runners on the corners, the Bucks pulled off a double steal and Kelly scored the eighth Bucks run.
Two-out runs continued to haunt the Blue Anchors' pitching staff in the eighth inning. Tyler Selesky walked with one out and stole second. Zach McKinstry walked to put two on and two out for Nagle who drove home Selesky. The Bucks got another run in when Nagle got in a rundown between first and second that allowed McKinstry to score the 10th run of the night for Waterloo.
The ninth inning brought one last rally from the Blue Anchors offense. Kerrigan tripled to start the inning and scored on Kyle Richardson's single giving a final score of 10-6.
Baumgart (0-1) got the loss pitching 2.2 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Both Tyler Hasper and Kody Knaus made their season debuts out of the bullpen. Hasper went 3.1 innings giving up two runs while striking out two batters. Knaus finished the game with two innings pitched surrendering two runs on a couple of hits and three free passes and punching out one.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Nehwon Norkeh (LF) - The outfielder kept his bat hot again as he delivered his third homer of the season. He added his seventh double of the year and his three RBI puts him at 13 for the summer.
