Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
Battle Creek, Mich - The Madison Mallards (20-11) used two big innings and 17 hits to defeat the Battle Creek Bombers (13-19) 11-1 on Monday night at C.O. Brown Stadium.
Kyle Slack (L 0-2) started for the Bombers and kept the Mallards offense at bay before surrendering a pair of runs in the 3rd on an RBI double by Tate Matheny. The Mallards then erupted for five runs in the 5th inning with the big blow coming on a 2- run home run by Bre'shon Kimbell. Madison took a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the 5th when Battle Creek was finally able to break through for a run against Mallards starter, Luke Staub (W 3-2). Kade Scivicque tripled and later scored on a Mark Weist sacrifice fly, but that would be the only run the Bombers would push across the plate. Staub was dazzling on the mound going 8 innings, surrendering just 2 hits and striking out 5.
The Mallards kept the runs coming in the 7th inning plating 4 more to go ahead 11-1. Ben Dartnell, Todd Eaton and Kellen Urbon worked in relief for Battle Creek. The Bombers will welcome in the Wisconsin Woodchucks for a two game series starting tomorrow. Alex Tukey (0-1) will start the opener. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Battle Creek Bombers are members of the Northwoods League that has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other summer collegiate baseball league in America. For information on tickets call (269) 962-0735 or visit BattleCreekBombers.com.
