Blue Anchors Fall to Border Cats, 10-7

Thunder Bay, Ontario-The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Thunder Bay Border Cats by a score of 10-7 on Sunday at Subway Field. The loss drops the Blue Anchors to 8-23 on the season.

The Blue Anchors led off the game with a run, as Andrew Sohn scored on a Ryan Blanchard double to make it 1-0. After Thunder Bay responded with one run in the bottom of the first, Alexandria responded with four runs in the top of the second. After an Andrew Mulato walk and an Aaron Gretz single, Michael Barash doubled to drive in Mulato. After a Georgie Salem walk loaded the bases, Sohn hit a single to drive in Gretz to make the score 3-1. Blanchard then came up big again, hitting a single to drive in Salem and Barash, and the score was 5-1 in favor of the Blue Anchors.

However, Thunder Bay would respond with five runs of their own in the botton of the 2nd. Joey Hawkins drove in Kyle Hann on a single. After Ty Stetson walked to load the bases, Cory Kay drove in Dylan Goodwin and Hawkings to make it a 5-4 game. Stetson then scored on an error by Barash, and Kay scored on a Tyler Duplantis single, making the score 6-5 in favor of Thunder Bay.

The Anchors would put up single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. Keegan Dale would score on a Salem sacrifice fly in the 3rd, and Kris Goodman would score on a Dale double in the fourth to make it 7-6 Alexandria. However, a three-run fifth would give Thunder Bay the lead for good, with Hahn, Goodwin, and Stetson all scoring their second runs of the game. The Border Cats would add an insurance run in the 8th, and the Blue Anchors were unable to rally.

Taylor Simpson (0-2) took the loss for Alexandria, going 2.2 innings and giving up three runs. Chris Kerwood (3-1) got the win for Thunder Bay, going 7 innings while only giving up two runs.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game-Ryan Blanchard-Blanchard followed up a big first game in Thunder Bay with a big second game, going three for five and driving in three runs.

Notes-All but one member of the Blue Anchors lineup collected a hit in the game...Andrew Sohn drove in his 18th run of the season in the game, which ties him with Albert Baur for the team lead...Sohn also stole his team-leading 14th base of the season..The Blue Anchors wrap up the three-game set Monday with a 12:35pm start in Thunder Bay...The probable starter is TBD, and the game can be seen live on www.youtube/user/northwoodsleague
