Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
Clint Knoblauch turned in the most impressive performance on the mound this season for the Border Cats as Thunder Bay blanked the Alexandria Blue Anchors 5-0 before a sun splashed Canada Day crowd of 1,009 at Subway Field. The righthander from Florida Gulf Coast University fired a five-hitter and struck out eight as he improved his record to 2-3. Knoblauch walked just one batter and threw 61 of his 94 total pitches for strikes.
The Cats got plenty of production from a pair of Canucks in the lineup as Kyle Hann of Oakville, ON., and Joey Hawkins of Whitby, ON., both collected two hits as the Cats upped their first half record to 13-20. Hann, from Mississippi State University, went 2-2 with a double, one run batted in, and a run scored. The former member of the Canadian National Junior Team reached base all four times as he also walked twice. Hawkins, from Missouri State University, had a 2-4 day at the plate with a pair of runs batted in. Leading 1-0, the Cats scored three times in the 3rd inning on three consecutive RBI singles by Hann, Jacob Rogers (Eastern New Mexico University) and Hawkins. Philip Lyons (Nicholls State University) went 3-5 and scored twice in the win.
The Cats hook up again with the Blue Anchors Tuesday night in Alexandria at 8:05pm ET. The two teams will play a two-game series to close out the first half of the season.
CLAW MARKS: The Fountain Tire - Canada Day Jersey Auction brought in $1.840.00 in bids with the proceeds going towards Special Olympics. The Cats now have twins on the team as they have signed brothers Anthony and Steven Pastrana from Dominican College in New York. The 19-year old brothers are both righthanded pitchers from Queens, NY.
