Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Eric Giosa's slap shot from the left circle proved to be the overtime-winner as the Quad City Mallards topped the Arizona Sundogs by a 4-3 final at Tim's Toyota Center on Tuesday night.

Giosa's winner was his second goal of the night and came just 44 seconds into the overtime period. For Arizona, it was their league-leading 13th one-goal game of the season.

Kevin Petovello forced overtime for the Sundogs after deflecting Shawn Morton-Boutin's shot past Mallards goaltender David McKee midway through the third period to knot the game at 3-3. The goal was Petovello's first of his pro career after signing with the Sundogs prior to the game.

Jared Lavender and Giosa also scored in the third period for the Mallards. Giosa's came on the power play.

Shane Lovedahl opened up the scoring with a power play goal for the Mallards, but the Sundogs responded with a pair of goals in less than a minute to take a 2-1 lead. David Nimmo at 5:56 scored his sixth of the season and Jeff Martens added his first of the year 40 seconds later from the right circle.

Levente Szuper returned to action for the Sundogs, making 39 saves in the loss. McKee took the win with 37 saves in the game.

The Mallards finished 2-for-5 on the power play while the Sundogs went 0-for-4.

The Sundogs and Mallards wrap up their two-game set on Wednesday at 7:05 PM MST.
