Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS- Thomas Beauregard broke a tie game halfway through the third period, giving Wichita a 5-3 victory in a see-saw affair on Tuesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena against the Fort Wayne Komets. With the win, Wichita (14-7-0) moves within two points of the Allen Americans for first place in the Berry Conference while Fort Wayne (13-7-0) is still one point back of Evansville for first place in the Turner Conference.

Fort Wayne jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Frankie DeAngelis found a rebound after a terrific save was made by Thunder netminder Adam Russo and scored his sixth of the season. At 11:10, Chris Auger added to that lead when a puck took a weird bounce and found him in the slot and netted his 10th goal. Fort Wayne came into the game 8-1-0 leading after one period while Wichita was 4-3-0 trailing after one.

Alex Bourret kick-started the Thunder in the second at 2:23 when his pass to the crease area ricocheted off a skate and through Komets goalie Nick Boucher, making it 2-1 Fort Wayne. Wichita tied the game at two as Matt Robinson dug a loose puck into the slot and Aaron Davis slammed it home at 8:08. A few minutes later, Robinson took a drop pass from Davis and blasted it past Boucher for Wichita's first lead of the game, 3-2. Robinson has scored seven goals in his last nine games.

The Komets struck first in the third period at 7:59, as Tom Mele broke free from a scrum in the slot and beat Russo with a backhand to tie the game at three. Just over a minute later, Thomas Beauregard netted the game winning goal as he side stepped a defenseman in the slot, switched to his forehand and beat Boucher to give Wichita a 4-3 lead. Alex Bourret added an empty net goal, his ninth on the year and the Thunder won 5-3. Bourret and Davis now lead the team with eight multi-point games while Adam Russo earned his 10th win of the season.

Wichita finishes off the four game home stand this coming weekend as the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees fly into town for a pair of games, both at 7:05pm. Beginning Sunday in Texas, Wichita will head on the road for three straight. On Friday and Saturday, Santa Claus will be in attendence to take pictures on the concourse.
