
Mallards Look to Finish off Home Stand with Sweep

Madison, WI June 17, 2012. The Madison Mallards (8-10) will play the finale of their two game series today at the Duck Pond against the Lakeshore Chinooks (9-9). First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 pm.
On Saturday the Mallards won in walk-off fashion, 5-4 in the series opener against the Chinooks. The Mallards were able to score the winning run in the 10th inning when the Chinooks couldn t turn a double play with the bases loaded to get out of the inning.
Taking the ball for the Mallards today will be right-hander Kurt Giller (Oral Roberts). In his first start of the season Giller was solid, going 5.2 innings and allowing three runs in a 9-6 loss to the Wisconsin Woodchucks (8-10). Today he will be looking for his first decision after his last start he left with a 5-2 lead but saw it slip away.
Lefty Nick Soldano (North Park) will look to keep the Mallards offense at bay in his third start of the season. Soldano (1-0) has posted a 3.93 ERA and has 12 strikeouts. His last start he went 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and two hits in a 3-2 loss to the La Crosse Loggers (13-5).
Today s game is the last of the Mallards five game home stand, their longest such home stand of the season. After wrapping up their series with the Chinooks the Mallards will head to Green Bay to start a three game series with the Green Bay Bullfrogs (9-9).
The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Wednesday June 20th to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs. That night will be Oscar Mayer Appreciation Night at the ballpark, featuring Wiener dog races.
