Mallards Clinch Playoff Spot
August 3, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards clinched a berth in the Northwoods League's South Division playoffs with their victory on Sunday. Division postseason competition will begin on Monday, August 10 and end on Tuesday, August 11. Wednesday, August 12 will be an off day and the Summer Collegiate World Series will start on Thursday, August 13.
Eight teams - four from each division - will be guaranteed spots in the postseason. First and second half Divisional champions will have home field advantage on the first day of the one-game elimination Divisional playoffs. If a team wins both halves, the team with the second best overall record will also have home field advantage on the first day. The first half champion Kenosha Kingfish will host the four seed on Monday and the two seed will play the three seed in the other game.
The winners from day one will advance to the divisional championship game, which will be held on Tuesday, August 11. Of the teams still remaining on Tuesday, the teams with the better overall record from each division will host Tuesday's games. After an off day on Wednesday, the Summer Collegiate World Series will begin on Thursday, August 13 at the home of the team with the lower overall record. Games two and three of that series will be played at the home field of the team with the better overall record.
Entering Monday, the Mallards currently maintain the second-best record overall in the South Division and would host a playoff game on Monday, August 10 if the season ended today. With seven games remaining in Madison's regular-season schedule, seeding and location of first-round postseason games will officially be determined after all games on Sunday, August 9 have been completed.
