
Mainers start anew with victory at New Bedford

Sanford (5-7) starter Christian Lavoie (1-1) dominated the pace and tilted Bay Sox (1-11) batters on their side with 7 innings of 4 hite work while striking out just 1 and allowing only 1 run on his way to his first victory of the season. Dan Hetzel finished the day 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's, Kendall Patrick was 4 =C21/2 feet from a homer in straight away center with a line drive shot and motored into second in the 5th inning finishing his day 1 for 4, Drake Parker scored a run and completed the winning effort 2 for 4 as well. Sam Balzano drove in an RBI on his 1 for 4 night.
Jake Marks (1) completed the two inning save with 2 strikeouts not allowing a hit and the Mainers bullpen shut out the Bay Sox. The Mainers bullpen needed the rest after a taxing last week where leads were tough to keep in a 5 game losing streak coming to a halt. Bay Sox starter Joe Carvero (0-2) tossed just 4 innings after allowing all 4 runs on 6 hits, walking 2 with 1 strikeout. Carvero's ERA balloons to 6.30 in the loss. Jeremy Perron relieved Carvero and was fairly solid, allowing just 2 hits, walking 2, striking out 2 and no runs in 2.2 innings.
Dan Wertz got the call as the final pitcher of the night completing the last 2.1 innings allowing just one hit, with a single strikeout. The Mainers finished the night with 9 hits as just two batters in the starting lineup were held hitless by the Bay Sox pitching staff. Steven Berman has driven in four runs in two games since joining the team, Mike Rescigno improved his RBI total to three with the two tonight and Sam Balzano adds another RBI to his total of two on the season.
Christian Lavoie delivered 89 pitches in his 7 innings of work, 60 for strikes; Jake Marks finished the victory with 34 pitches 18 of which were the strike variety. The Mainers move to 5-7 on the season and the Bay Sox continue to struggle at 1-11.
The Moose come home to face North Adams (6-5), first pitch set for 6:30 pm, Nick Poore (0-0) will get the ball for the Mainers against right handed pitcher E.J. Hunt (1-0, 2.07 ERA) for the SteepleCats, where Sanford has been slow to start notching just 1 win in 5 tries at historic and beautiful Goodall Park. The one win came over North Adams on the 7th of June 9-8 on opening day!
