
Mainers in 2014 All-Star Game

Rich Vrana (Marist) has the second lowest ERA in the NECBL at 0.39 with a 2-0 record on the season and has been named the Northern Division Starter for the 2014 NECBL All-Star game on July 20th in Holyoke, Massachusetts! Vrana the 6'2 205 pound senior at Marist College has started 4 games, tossed 22.2 innings and record 24 strikeouts with only 5 walks and just 15 hits allowed. Vrana has held opponents to a .192 batting average on the season recording at least 5 strikeouts in all 4 of his starts with a season high 7 K's against Ocean State on June 18th.
Christian Lavoie (UMass Lowell) and league leader in saves Cam Hatch (St. Edwards) join Vrana in the bullpen of the Northern Division All-Star team. Lavoie a 6'4, 215 lbs senior has a record of 2-1 on the season with a 1.16 ERA in 5 games started throwing 31 innings with 11 strikeouts and just 2 walks. Lavoie revels in controlling the pace of a game and has had a season high of 4 strikeouts against Valley in a 1-to-0 win at Goodall Park. Hatch is tied for the league lead in saves with 6 this season, the 6'2, 220 pound Junior has a 2-0 record with a 2.16 ERA out of the pen with 10 games played all in relief completing 8.1 innings with 8 strikeouts.
The Mainers have been led by their pitching staff for the entire first half of the season, allowing a league low 2.44 ERA against them including a 1.10 ERA in the last 7 games surrendering just 5 earned runs in 41 innings.
Joining the pitching staff with be a plethora of Mainers bats, Stevie Berman (Santa Clara Univ.), was vote backup catcher, Drake Parker (Vanderbilt) and Matt Pagano (Marist College) will range the outfield. Along with Manager Aaraon Izaryk getting his first nod to manage the Northern Division, the Mainers will be well represented at the 2014 All-Star game in Holyoke, Massachusetts inside Mackenzie Stadium.
Berman- has slammed one home run on the season, batting .235 overall, 12 RBI's, 5 doubles, with 0 errors playing mostly as DH in the first half with spot starts as catcher. Over the last 7 games Berman has been hitting at a .313 clip and knocks it at .444 with runners in scoring position with 7 RBI's.
Parker- leads the Mainers in batting average at .308, 4 stolen bases in 19 games in the outfield for the Mainers, Parker has an on-base-percentage of .357 and an OPS of .703 which is tops on the Mainers team. Parker's catch at Keene still rings with NECBL fans robbing a grand slam on the way to a 2-1 victory for the Moose.
Pagano- has used a late charge offensively after starting the season on-fire to move his batting average to .271 on the season. Pagano puts the ball in play with just 12 strikeouts in 59 at-bats this season along with 7 RBI's. Pagano has a walk-off hit on the season as well for the Mainers in a 1-to-0 victory against Valley on June 30th and has come through in the clutch multiple times for the Mainers during the course of their 8 game win streak.
