Ex-Mountaineer Johnson Named to Futures Game Roster

July 13, 2014 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Former Vermont Mountaineer standout Micah Johnson (Indiana) will take to the diamond tonight in the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, joining the best young prospects in all of Major League Baseball (MLB) in a showcase of the stars of tomorrow.

Johnson, a member of the Chicago White Sox organization since being selected in the ninth round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft, has enjoyed a fantastic 2014 campaign at both the Southern League (AA) and International League (AAA), prompting his selection to the United States Team roster.

The Indianapolis, Indiana, native started the year with Double-A Birmingham and promptly started off with a .329 average through his first 37 games, scoring 18 runs, poking nine doubles, a triple and three home runs while posting an OPS of .880 and going 10-for-17 in stolen bases.

That led to a call-up to Triple-A Charlotte, where he continues to rake, batting a shade under .300 on a 49-for-165 clip at the plate (.297) and has already scored 20 runs and drilled five doubles, three triples, one home run and has driven in 18 runs over 38 games. He owns a .297/.329/.382 slash line and has gone 6-for-10 on the base paths.

A 2010 Mountaineer, Johnson finished that summer with a .292 batting average over 39 games. He smashed 42 hits, including six doubles, a triple and a homer, while scoring 19 runs and swiping 11 bases. He finished that year with a .720 OPS with the 'Neers.

The 16th annual Futures Game will take place tonight at 5 p.m. at Target Field in Minneapolis, kicking off the beginning of 2014 All-Star Game Weekend. The game will be broadcast live on the MLB Network and MLB.com.
