Valley Blue Sox News Release
HOLYOKE, MA- The Keene Swamp Bats were only able to score in one inning but that one frame was all they needed in a 4-2 win over the Valley Blue Sox at Mackenzie Stadium on July 13.
The Blue Sox sit at 8-19 on the year.
The Blue Sox score in the first frame as Frank Crinella took a four-pitch walk, and Nick Lynch singled to right to move him to third. Crinella subsequently scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth, however, the Swamp Bats erupted, with two singles and a triple to take a 2-1 lead, and then a sac fly made it 3-1. A single, double, and wild pitch made it 4-1.
Valley scored a run in the seventh as Jeremie Fagnan singled; Joseph Carcone pinch-ran, advancing to second on a Kevin Barker walk, then to third on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Korte, then home on a wild pitch.
However, that was all they could manage as they hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the eighth to end their last real threat.
Valley has tomorrow off before heading to Laconia on July 15; they return home Thursday, July 19 against the North Adams SteepleCats for Star Wars Night with a 6:35 p.m. start; gates open at 5:30 p.m. and Darth Vader will be in attendance.
The 2014 season will represent the Blue Sox seventh season in the Pioneer Valley, playing at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke. The Blue Sox have been a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL; www.necbl.com ) since 2008. The NECBL is funded in part by Major League Baseball and is comprised of 12 teams throughout all six New England states who recruit the elite athletes and premier pro prospects from around the world.
