Sanford Mainers News Release
Holyoke, MA- The Sanford Mainers (17-10) improve to 3-and-0 against the Valley Blue Sox (9-21) with a 7-to-0 win. After losing the last two games, which were almost a week ago after back-to-back rain-outs, the Mainers got back to what they have done best the past couple of weeks, win. Christian Lavoie (3-1) took the ball and the win for the Mainers completing 5 innings of 6 hit ball with 2 strikeouts moving his ERA to 1.00 on the season.
Ryan Johnson (Vanderbilt) threw the 6th inning and held off the Valley Blue Sox allowing 2 hits but no runs to score. Tyler Barss (Univ. Rhode Island) relieved in the 7th walking two but induced a 6-4-3 double play from Cory Raley (Texas Tech) to Sam Dexter (So. Maine) then on to first to Matt Harris, Harris (St John's) noticed Jeremie Fagnan (TCU) hesitated heading to third and threw on target to Caden Bailey to finish off a triple play!, the first one of the season for the Moose and the first in any recent memory for the coaching staff of the Mainers. It seemed to be that way all evening and all season for the Blue Sox, who have had rough times grounding out of runners on situations.
Drake Parker (Vanderbilt) finished 1-for-4 with a stolen base (5), Matt Pagano (Marist) went 1-for-4, Caden Bailey (Georgia State) completed a 2-for-3 night with 2 walks and a stolen base (4), Stevie Berman (Santa Clara) capped off a 1-for-3 performance with a walk, Cory Raley knocked a 2-for-5 with an RBI appearance into the books moving his batting average to .203 on the season and sending home his 11th RBI. Matt Harris had a productive night as well, going 2-for-4 with a long double that plated 3 RBI's. The Mainers benefited from a couple of errors by Blue Sox shortstop Garrett Black (Ohio Univ.), in the second was a hard hit ball that ate up Black from the bat of Mike Rescigno that brought in both Raley and Harris.
In the top of the 3rd the Mainers added two more runs to make it 4-to-0, Cory Raley once again singled to left field which brought in Bailey after Bailey reached on a dropped third strike and Berman doubled Bailey over the third base. Harris reached on a fielder's choice and Berman scored adding the second run.
The 4-to-0 lead held into the 9th where the Moose would bust it open with 3 runs on 1 hit, another tough error on Black would move Raley to first base, Caden Bailey moved to third and Drake Parker would score. Matt Harris continued his breakout night, plating his 3rd and final RBI by doubling to the right center gap and bringing in Raley and Bailey making it 7-to-0.
The Mainers improve to 17-10 and trail the Vermont Mountaineers (20-10) by a-game and a-half for first place in the NECBL Northern Division. Tomorrow the Mainers head to Alumni Field to take on the Keene Swamp Bats (13-16) with first pitch set for 6:30 pm, Brett Adcock (Michigan, 2-1 3.64 ERA) gets the ball for your Moose!
