Frederick Keys News Release

1B Joe Mahoney registered four hits and Keys pitching left 13 Salem runners stranded on the base paths as Frederick defeated Salem 8-4 for its third win in four games at Lewis Gale Field.

Salem had won 10-of-13 home games before the Keys arrival.

Frederick jumped out to a 2-0 lead when LF Jacob Julius provided two, two-out RBI hits in the game's first four innings. Salem would battle back after an unearned run in the fourth inning to send nine men to the plate in the fifth inning. The Red Sox scored three runs in the inning but did strand the bases loaded. It would be one of three times the Red Sox left the bases loaded on the night.

The Keys jumped right back on Salem in the top of the sixth inning. RF Ronnie Welty singled to lead off the inning and then Mahoney doubled to set-up the rally. Mahoney would have four hits on the night. The doors were open and the Keys plated four runs. The last of which coming on a perfect suicide squeeze by C Luis Bernardo and Frederick was atop 6-4.

Three consecutive hits in the seventh inning from SS Greg Miclat, Welty and Mahoney sent two more runs home and the four-run cushion was built.

Frederick heads for Kinston, NC for a three-game weekend series with the Indians beginning Friday, May 14th at 7:00 p.m. from Grainger Stadium. RHP Kenny Moreland is on the hill with coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. from Kinston, NC.
