
Rocks Edge Cats in Finale to Take Series

Lynchburg fell to Wilmington in a back and forth series finale 4-3 on Thursday night at Frawley Stadium. The Blue Rocks took three out of four in the series.
Wilmington would plate the first run of the night as they scored in the first inning for the third straight game. Eric Hosmer doubled home Adrian Ortiz to give the Blue Rocks an early 1-0 lead.
The Hillcats would score their first two runs of the night in the third inning as they took a 2-1 lead. Neftali Soto hit a two-out, two-run double to give the Green & Gold the advantage.
Back would come the Blue Rocks though with a single run in the third and another in the fourth inning to retake the lead. Rey Navarro tied the game at two in the third inning with a ground ball fielder's choice. In the fourth the Rocks took the lead on an RBI single by J.D. Alfaro.
Lynchburg rallied again to tie the game at three with another RBI by Soto. A sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning knotted up the game at three a piece. The Blue Rocks went back on top again though in the sixth inning 4-3. Salvador Perez started the inning with a double off the wall in center field and scored on a ground ball double play by Jamie Romak. An error in the inning by Jose Gualdron aided the run and made it unearned.
Sean Watson (0-1) took the loss for Lynchburg (15-19) who has now lost five out of their last six. The win went to James Thompson (1-3) for Wilmington (14-20) who took three out of four in the series. The Hillcats now return home for a seven-game homestand that begins on Friday night at 6:05 p.m. against the Winston-Salem Dash. Right-hander Mark Serrano (2-0, 3.58) will get the start for the Cats opposite righty Stephen Sauer (2-1, 5.29) for the Dash.
