
Mahinmi leads Toros to blowout win

AUSTIN, TX - The Austin Toros bounced back from a rare home loss on Friday night with a 118-87 victory over the Dakota Wizards on Saturday night at the Austin Convention Center. Ian Mahinmi scored 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Toros, who improved to 21-11 on the season and remain in first place in the Southwest Division.
Mahinmi, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, had a season-high seven blocks and nearly had season-highs in both points and rebounds. DerMarr Johnson scored 26 points and Marcus Williams added 23. Keith Langford contributed 14 with four assists.
Austin led by as many as 32 points in the fourth quarter. The Toros used a 19-10 run in the second quarter capped by a slam-dunk by Mahinmi to take a 60-47 lead to the locker room at halftime. The Toros led by as many as 23 in the third quarter.
The Dakota Wizards were led in scoring by 27 points from both Blake Ahearn and Dontell Jefferson. Will Frisby scored 12 points and Carlos Powell scored 3 points but pulled down nine rebounds in the loss for the Wizards, who fall to 19-15.
The Toros play back-to-back home games next weekend against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Friday night and the Anaheim Arsenal on Saturday night.
