Magee Reassigned to Stingrays, Komm Traded to Idaho
January 20, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced several roster moves today. The club added forward Brandon Magee, who has been reassigned from the Idaho Steelheads to the Stingrays by the American Hockey League's (AHL) Texas Stars. In a corresponding move, the Stingrays announced they have traded goalie Branden Komm to Steelheads.
Magee, 21, is in his rookie season. The Edmonton, Alberta native has appeared in 31 games with Idaho, scoring 15 points (six goals, nine assists) to go along with 48 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound forward shoots right and signed a contract with the Texas Stars, the AHL affiliate of the Steelheads, on October 3. He was a member of Dallas Stars prospect team in Traverse City, Mich. tournament and attended NHL Training Camp with Dallas Stars.
Prior to turning pro, Magee played five seasons of junior hockey Western Hockey League (WHL). In his WHL career, Magee scored 264 points (113 goals, 151 assists) in 318 games, making him the all-time leader in points for the WHL Victoria/Chilliwack franchise.
Magee will wear #18 for South Carolina.
Komm, 24, was signed by the Stingrays on October 27. With an injury to goalie Mark Dekanich early in the season, and the departure of Vitek Vanecek to play at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships in December, Komm was solid for the Stingrays in goal when called upon. He went 6-2-0-0 with South Carolina, posting a 1.89 goals-against average, and a .923 save-percentage with one shutout. He was named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week on December 29.
In a separate transaction, the Stingrays also announced that they have released forward Jordan Kwas. He was claimed off waivers by the Wheeling Nailers.
