Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Davenport, IA - Kernels starter Aaron Rozek cruised through 5.0 innings of one-run ball while Charles Mack (3-for-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI) had a three-hit game to power Cedar Rapids to a 6-2 series finale win over Quad Cities on Sunday afternoon. The Kernels' 4-2 series win marks the first time since 2019 that the River Bandits have dropped a home series. With a Wisconsin loss to Beloit, Cedar Rapids is now alone in first place in the West Division with a 7-2 record to open 2022.
Rozek struck out seven and walked none while scattering three hits, allowing a lone unearned run over his 5.0 frames of work to earn the win. He threw 49 strikes on 72 pitches.
The Kernels took advantage of two Quad Cities errors in the second to plate the game's first run, then added one more in the fifth on an Anthony Prato (2-for-5, 2 RBI) run-scoring single.
After Quad Cities got a run back in the fifth, Mack laced an RBI single in the sixth to reclaim a two-run lead. Kennie Taylor (2-for-3, BB, R, 3B) tripled to open the seventh and scored on a Willie Joe Garry Jr. (1-for-3, BB, R, 2B, RBI) double down the left field line.
Bobby Milacki (HD, 1.0 IP), Miguel Rodriguez (HD, 1.0 IP, H, 2 K), Denny Bentley (HD, 1.0 IP, 3 K) and Osiris German (1.0 IP, 3 H, R) combined for 4.0 frames of one-run relief to close out the series.
The Kernels return to Cedar Rapids to open a six-game homestand against the Peoria Chiefs, with game one set for 6:35 p.m. CT at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, April 19.
