Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Davenport, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits lost their first series at Modern Park in two years on Sunday, as they were topped by the Cedar Rapids Kernels 6-2 in the finale of their six-game set.

Anderson Paulino got the start for the Bandits and retired 13 of the 15 batters he faced in his 4.0-inning start, but a walk and a pair of errors, both on himself, led to an unearned run in the top of the second that gave the Kernels a 1-0 lead.

Both teams tacked on a run in the fifth via RBI singles, as Anthony Prato, his first of two on the day, collected one for the visitors, while Burle Dixon added to his three-hit night and drove in the Bandits' first run in the bottom half off of Aaron Rozek, who allowed just the one unearned run in his 5.0 innings on the bump.

The Kernels however, quickly made it a two-run advantage once again, using four hits off of Yohanse Morel in the top of the sixth and seventh to set up RBI knocks from Charles Mack and Willie Joe Garry Jr. to push the Q.C. deficit to 4-1.

After Mitch Ellis surrendered Prato's second RBI single and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to Aaron Sabato in the top of the ninth, the Bandits got the third hit of the game from Dixon, an RBI-double, to make it a 6-2 contest, but the rally and the game ended one batter later when Quad Cities' manager Brooks Conrad was tagged for coaches interference during a Cedar Rapids' hidden ball trick in the bottom of the ninth.

Paulino (0-2) took his second loss of the season for the Bandits in the defeat, while Rozek (1-0) got the win for the visitors in a seven-strikeout day.

The River Bandits will have Monday, April 18 off before hitting the road for their first six-game trip of the season, as they'll start a six-game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday.
