
MacIver Homer Leads Yard Goats Past Fisher Cats

Manchester, NH -Catcher Willie MacIver blasted a three-run home run in the fourth inning, and helped the Hartford Yard Goats beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8-5 on Wednesday evening at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. MacIver's homer extended his hitting streak to a team-high five consecutive games. Hartford scored seven of its eight runs in the first four innings to win its first road game of the season. The Yard Goats have hit seven home runs over their first five games which is the second most in the Eastern League.
The Yard Goats scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Fisher Cats starter Elvis Luciano, who is on the Blue Jays 40-man MLB roster. Hartford loaded the bases with two walks and an error, and Coco Montes followed with a walk, scoring Isaac Colling and giving Hartford a 1-0 lead. The Yard Goats added a second run on Brenton Doyle's fielder's choice grounder which scored Ezequiel Tovar making it 2-0.
The Fisher Cats scored a run in the first inning off Hartford starter Karl Kauffmann on three singles, including an RBI hit by Spencer Horwitz to make it 2-1. Kauffmann settled down and did not allow another run over 4.2 innings and recorded eight strikeouts in his first start of the season. Reliever Blair Calvo pitched 1.1 scoreless to earn his first Double-A win.
Hartford scored two more runs in the second inning off reliever Geison Urbaez to make it 4-1. Once again, the Yard Goats took advantage of walks and an error. Kyle Datres and Jameson Hannah started the inning with walks, and Tovar scored Datres from third on a fielding error to make it 3-1. Michael Toglia followed with an RBI single to right field, scoring Hannah and it was 4-1.
The Yard Goats added to their lead in the fourth inning as Willie MacIver cranked a three-run homer to make it 7-1. The long blast over the left centerfield fence was the catcher's second of the season. Hartford extended the lead to 8-1 on Aaron Schunk's RBI double in the seventh inning. The Fisher Cats scored a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth innings to make it a three-run game before Gavin Hollowell struck out Chris Bec to end it.
The Yard Goats continue their first road trip of the season on Thursday in New Hampshire at 6:35 PM. RHP Mitch Kilkenny will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Joey Murray will start for New Hampshire. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, April 19 (7:05 PM) against the Yankees affiliate, the Somerset Patriots.
