MacIntyre, Carrick to Represent Canada at Spengler Cup

Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers announced today that they have assigned goaltender Drew MacIntyre and defenseman Trevor Carrick to Team Canada for the upcoming Spengler Cup tournament in Davos, Switzerland.
While at the tournament, which runs from Dec. 26-31 and annually pits a Canadian national team selection against various European club teams, MacIntyre and Carrick will not be available for the Checkers' next two games in San Jose on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30. They are expected to return on Jan. 1, with their playing status for that weekend's games in Ontario to be evaluated at that time.
To replace MacIntyre on the roster, the Checkers recalled goaltender Rasmus Tirronen from the ECHL's Florida Everblades on Monday. Tirronen, who began the season and played eight games with Charlotte, went 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .946 save percentage in the first two ECHL games of his career last week.
This marks the second consecutive season that MacIntyre, 32, will attend the event, as he helped Canada to an appearance in 2014 semifinal. The native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, currently ranks eighth in AHL history with 221 career victories and ranks in the league's top 10 in games (20) and minutes (1,133) played this season.
This year's Spengler Cup will be the first for Carrick, the Carolina Hurricanes' fourth-round draft choice in 2012. The 21-year-old native of Stouffville, Ontario, currently ranks second on the Checkers and is tied for sixth among AHL defensemen with 20 points. His seven goals in 28 games, which match his total from his 76-game rookie season in 2014-15, rank third on the team and are tied for third among league blueliners.
