Portland's Mike McKenna Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Portland Pirates goaltender Mike McKenna has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 20, 2015.
McKenna won all three of his starts last week and allowed just three goals on 80 shots, good for a 1.00 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage.
On Wednesday night vs. Springfield, McKenna made 30 saves to backstop Portland to a 5-2 win over the Falcons. On Saturday, McKenna finished with 24 saves and stopped all 17 shots he faced over the final two periods to preserve a 2-1 Pirates win at Bridgeport. And in Sunday's rematch with the Sound Tigers, McKenna turned aside 23 shots for his first shutout of the season to lead Portland to a 3-0 victory.
McKenna has appeared in 19 games for Portland this season and has a record of 10-7-1 with a 2.56 goals-against average, a .901 save percentage and one shutout. Originally drafted by Nashville in 2002, McKenna is in his 11th professional season in 2015-16 and has played 351 career American Hockey League games, posting a record of 169-138-21, a 2.72 GAA, a .912 save percentage and 23 shutouts. The native of St. Louis, Mo., has also made 22 career appearances in the NHL with Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Columbus and Arizona.
In recognition of his achievement, McKenna will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Pirates home game.
