MacDonald Answers Cornell's Call

Waterloo, Iowa-Jacob MacDonald has committed to playing hockey collegiately for Cornell University, the Waterloo Black Hawks announced Tuesday.

The defenseman from Brighton, Michigan is spending his second year with the Black Hawks after joining the team midway through the 2009-2010 season from Compuware's midget hockey program. He has been named the USHL Defenseman of the Week twice this season, most recently on January 17th. MacDonald (6-1, 198 pounds) is tied for seventh in scoring among USHL defensemen with 21 points (six goals, 15 assist) and ranks third in points among all Black Hawks players. He also leads the team in game-winning goals with three. Last season he notched four goals and six assists in 29 games.

"Jacob has tremendous offensive gifts," said Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "As he matures and continues his development defensively, he will be a significant contributor at the NCAA-level and eventually, a pro prospect."

MacDonald is one of a dozen players currently on the Black Hawks' roster with a college commitment. He joins Anthony Day (Yale), Tyson Fulton (Union), and Gunnar Hughes (St. Lawrence) among players committed to ECAC member institutions. There are no former Black Hawks currently playing for the Big Red, but Cornell's roster includes six players with USHL experience.
