M-Braves Stun Suns with 4-3 Win in Series Finale

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Cedric Hunter's two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning put the Mississippi Braves (29-21, 68-51) up for good, defeating the Jacksonville Suns (30-20, 66-54) by a 4-3 final on Sunday night from Bragan Field.

Brandon Cunniff (W, 3-0) earned his third victory of the year after giving up one run (earned) on one hit in his two innings of work, striking out two Suns in his winning effort.

John Cornely (SV, 5) locked down his fifth save by working a scoreless ninth inning, only giving up a lone hit along the way.

Dustin Moseley continued his run of good pitching for the Suns, surrendering a pair of runs (one earned) on only three hits, while walking a batter and striking out two Braves in a no-decision.

Matt Ramsey (L, 3-2) took the loss after allowing two runs (both earned) on two hits while walking two batters and striking out three batters.

Nick Wittgren worked an efficient 1-2-3 top of the ninth in his full inning of work.

Mississippi grabbed the early lead by plating a run in the top of the first inning. Following Kyle Wren's leadoff triple, Mycal Jones brought him in on a safety squeeze to put the M-Braves up 1-0 after the first half inning of play.

The Suns were able to get that run right back by tying the game up in the bottom of the first. As J.T. Realmuto took off to steal second base, an error by catcher Braeden Schlehuber on a throw to second base allowed Austin Barnes to score from third to level the scoring up at 1-1 with one inning complete.

Jacksonville pushed in front by scoring a single run in the bottom of the third inning. An opposite-field RBI single by Brady Shoemaker scored Austin Nola to put the Suns ahead by a 2-1 score after three innings.

Mississippi quickly tied the game back up after Kyle Kubitza scored from second base on Austin Barnes' fielding error on a ball put in play by Barrett Kleinknecht, making it a 2-2 ballgame in the top of the fourth.

The score remained tied until Suns reliever Matt Ramsey (HR, 1) helped his own cause when his first professional hit sailed over the wall in right field for a go-ahead solo home run, giving the Suns a 3-2 lead after seven innings of play. The homer was the first hit of Ramsey's professional career.

Jacksonville's lead did not stand for long as Cedric Hunter's two-run triple put the M-Braves back in front for good by a 4-3 score in the top of the eighth inning.

The M-Braves leave town having won four of the five games in the series.

The Suns will be off on Monday as they will now head to Chattanooga to begin a five-game series against the Lookouts beginning on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. ET. The Suns will start right-hander Jose Urena (10-7, 3.51) while the Lookouts will counter with a righty of their own in Andres Santiago (3-7, 4.72).
