Jackson Generals News Release

PENSACOLA, FLA. (AUGUST 10, 2014) - The Generals (22-27/53-65) fell in the series finale against Pensacola (20-30/51-69) in another seesaw battle 9-8 on Sunday at Bayfront Stadium. The Generals held leads of 2-0, 6-5 and 7-6 while Pat Kivlehan doubled, homered, scored three runs and drove in five in the loss. The two clubs combined to use 10 pitchers in the contest. The Generals dropped to 2.5 games back in the North standings with 21 games remaining.

Jackson's offense took off early once again as Pat Kivlehan (2x4, 3 R, 2B, HR, 5 RBI) hit his 10th Generals home run in the first inning, a two run shot that gave his team the early 2-0 advantage.

Pensacola, however, did one better in the bottom of the first as Travis Mattair went deep with a three-run homer to take the lead away from Jackson 3-2. Three batters later Juan Duran also sent a ball into Pensacola Bay, this time a two-run homer and the lead blossomed to 5-2 Blue Wahoos after just one inning of play.

Two innings later Kivlehan came back to the plate with the bases loaded and cleared them with his 20th double of the year to score Leon Landry (1x5, R, 2B), Patrick Brady (0x4, R), Kevin Rivers (0x2, R, 2 BB) and tie the game 5-5. Jordy Lara (2x4, 2 RBI) followed with another RBI base hit that brought home Kivlehan and the Generals had their second lead of the game 6-5.

In the bottom of the fourth, Yorman Rodriguez doubled with two outs and scored when Brodie Green singled him home to tie the game 6-6.

But the second tie of the game did not last long as Jackson took their third lead of the game in the fifth when Lara doubled home Kivlehan on a controversial fair call down the third base line to make the score 7-6 Generals.

The see-saw battle continued into the sixth as Greene hit a sacrifice fly to score Duran to tie the game for the third time. Chris Berset followed with a base hit that plated two more runs and Pensacola had their first lead since the second inning at 9-7.

However, the scoring was not done yet as in the eighth inning Jackson took a step closer to the Blue Wahoos when Carlton Tababe (1x3, RBI), just recalled Saturday from Pulaski, hit an RBI single to right that brought in Dan Paolini (1x4, R, 2B) and cut the Pensacola lead to 9-8.

Starter Tyler Pike (3-2, 7.46) struggled as he could not finish the first inning, allowing five runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning. He was taken off the hook by his offense, but ultimately Moises Hernandez (0-6, 5.68) suffered the loss for Jackson as he allowed three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings. Fabian Williamson (1-6, 3.26) picked up the win as he went 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out four and Shane Dyer earned his 16th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

The Generals will have an off day on Monday before they begin a home series with the Birmingham Barons in which they will play six games in five days with a double header scheduled for Wednesday. Lefty Cam Hobson (7-9, 4.20) will take the mound for Jackson as Birmingham will have Tony Bucciferro (1-1, 7.15) on the bump to make the start. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
