Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- For the second consecutive night, the Mississippi Braves and Pensacola Blue Wahoos went to extra innings at Trustmark Park and the M-Braves took the victory. Wednesday night's contest resulted in a 5-4 victory for the Braves as they improved to 5-0 in extra-inning games this season. The series continues with game four of five Thursday at 7:00 PM.
Matt Kennelly led off the bottom of the 13th with a single to center field. Barrett Kleinknecht singled, and Kyle Kubitza grounded into a force out. The second baseman, Brodie Greene, tried to complete an inning-ending double play but an errant throw allowed Kennelly to come in and score the winning run.
Mississippi (30-22) scored five runs on 11 hits while Pensacola (22-31) plated four runs on seven hits. The Blue Wahoos committed three errors in the game. Offensively, Mycal Jones led the Braves with three hits at the plate. Ryne Harper (3-0) picked up the win in relief.
The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first. Mycal Jones and Emerson Landoni reached on back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Seth Loman then delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, driving home Jones.
Daniel Carroll walked and J.R. Graham singled to start the fifth. Landoni was later hit by a pitch to load the bases before Kennelly walked to bring in a run and make it a 2-0 game.
Pensacola responded to take a 3-2 lead in the sixth. Juan Duran walked and Greene singled. A sacrifice bunt allowed both runners to advance. Eric Berger then came on to relieve Graham and gave up a two-run single to Rey Navarro, tying the game at 2-2. Travis Mattair walked to reload the bases for a Steve Selsky sacrifice fly to center.
Kleinknecht doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Kubitza then followed with a single to shortstop. An errant throw by the shortstop allowed Kleinknecht to score and tie the game at 3-3.
In the seventh, Greene doubled and scored on Yorman Rodriguez's triple to right field, putting the Blue Wahoos out front 4-3.
In the bottom of the ninth, Cedric Hunter doubled to get things started. Gustavo Nunez entered the game as a pinch runner before Joe Leonard delivered a pinch-hit single to right, tying the game at 4-4 and forcing extra innings for the second consecutive night.
Tim Adleman (1-2) took the loss for Pensacola.
Graham faced the minimum through five but did not factor in the decision. He gave up two earned runs on two hits and a walk while fanning six batters. Jon Moscot tossed five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out five batters.
In game four of this five-game series, M-Braves righty Jason Hursh (3-4, 4.18) counters Pensacola right-hander Mikey O'Brien (2-2, 4.58). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
