Augusta Lynx News Release

South Carolina scored four times in the third period to wrap up a 6-3 win at home in front of 5,644 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum and leapfrog the Augusta Lynx in the standings back to fifth place in the ECHL's American Conference Southern Division.

Augusta's red-hot power play connected once again to open the scoring at 9:27 of the first period. Martin Lapointe took a cross-ice feed from Nicolas Corbeil and made a great play to put the puck on net from a difficult position, beating Stingrays goaltender Davis Parley over the left shoulder for a 1-0 advantage. Ryan Lang also collected an assist on the goal to extend his scoring streak to seven straight games with a point.

South Carolina wasted no time tying the game in the second period, with Evan Schwabe breaking in alone on Jason Wolfe directly out of the penalty box at 2:42 and scoring on a backhand deke.

Back came the Lynx on a pinpoint wrist shot by Lang to quell the Stingrays momentum at 4:09 of the period, with assists to Corbeil and Lee Jacobson. Lang roofed the puck on the glove side for his second point of the game.

Again the Stingrays would push the game to a tie, this time taking advantage of a bounce off a glass stanchion. A dump into the Lynx zone caromed on net, and with the puck sitting free after Wolfe made a save on the deflection, Cail MacLean fed it in front to Marty Clapton for the equalizer.

From there, South Carolina would move ahead 5-2 on a pair of goals from Matt Reid and a single marker from MacLean. Anthony Battaglia scored late to make it a 5-3 game, but Clapton's empty netter sealed the game despite a late Augusta power play.

The Lynx finished the evening 1-for-6 with the power play while South Carolina ended the night 0-for-4. Wolfe stopped 33 shots in taking the loss while Parley turned aside 26 for the win.

Augusta will get back to action next week Saturday night in their only game of the weekend in Columbia against the Inferno. Game time has been moved to 7:35 pm, with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicking off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
